I Chronicles 10: 13-14
“So Saul died in his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the Lord, because he did not keep the word of the Lord, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance. But he did not inquire of the Lord; therefore He killed him and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.”
Chronicles 10 re-caps the tragic end of Saul’s life. As depressing as it sounds, there is a reason it is mentioned over and over in the Bible (1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Chronicles). It’s so we don’t forget that we may LEARN from Saul’s life and APPLY those lessons to our own. God is really sweet like that. He gives us examples of people who started well until they turned their hearts away from Him and ended tragically (Samson, Saul, Solomon). He also let’s us study the lives of people who STARTED FAITHFUL AND STAYED FAITHFUL to inspire us to walk closely with Him (Joseph, Joshua, Caleb, Josiah, Daniel, Nehemiah, Paul, etc…).
The TRUTH is, we don’t have to hit rock bottom, fall away from the Lord, or make destructive decisions that will send us into the “wilderness” for years and years. We can make a clear cut decision to walk closely with our Heavenly Father – through thick and thin, through pain and challenge and well as through the good and wonderful times.
