Psalm 7: 9-10 & 14-16
“Oh, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end. For the righteous God tests the hearts and minds. My defense is of God who saves the upright in heart. (V. 14) Behold, the wicked brings forth iniquity (sin); yes, he conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood. He made a pit and dug it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he has made. His trouble shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown.”
Satan would love us to see wickedness and sin as “something that is forbidden, yet very attractive at the same time”. If he can get us to “secretly want what we can’t have” he loves it. He spends hours upon hours each day dressing up sin to look attractive. He is masterful at marketing and distributing things that will divide, steal, kill and destroy anyone who reaches out to partake of them.
Just take a trip to the mall – Satan’s "add campaigns" are more than flagrant. And, we as a culture, have willingly plastered our window displays and kiosks with all manner of his life-killing agenda. Television is another of his favorite places to barrage with flagrant “forbidden fruit”. Just sit in front of the TV for 15 minutes with “open eyes”. It is amazing to observe how we as a society would even consider giving airtime to the sexual, violent, brain-sucking pollution he is pushing. Deep down, we know it’s bad for us - yet, somehow, we continue to reach out for it and repeatedly expose ourselves, and our children, to it.
Video games, movies, music, internet, and social media are other places he loves to pollute. If he can get us to innocently start a “relationships” with these outlets and devote large amounts of our time to them, he can begin to subtly (or not so subtly) expose us to his agenda and draw our hearts by igniting a certain level of attraction to those things he offers.
He loves it when he can get people to “claim membership to the Christian team” if he can get those same people to continually look “over the fence” and secretly participate and/or desire to be on his team.
Here’s the deal. As Christians we need to get smart and ask the Lord to help us identify sin and all roads that will lead to sin and wickedness. Sin isn’t cute. It’s not to be flirted with, or hung around with. It will ruin us by first coming between us and the Lord, and then setting about to destroy our marriages, cripple and “dumb down” our parenting, and then continue to filter out into every level of our lives. God is serious about us wising up and hating sin, turning from it and having nothing to do with it – not because He is old-fashioned or boring, and not because it’s “against the rules”, but because it will kill us, steal our hope, freedom, vision and stop the fruitful, life-filled things He has for us. HE WANTS US TO HATE WICKEDNESS AND SIN BECAUSE HE LOVES US AND WANTS THE VERY BEST FOR US!
