Ecclesiastes 7:1-9:18 / 2 Corinthians 7:8-16 / Psalm 48:1-14 / Proverbs 22:17-19

Standout verse: 2 Corinthians 7:10
“For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.”

Godly sorrow is a GOOD THING. God uses sorrow over our sin to lead us to repentance. THE GREATEST INDICATOR OF TRUE REPENTANCE IS OUR BEHAVIOR. When we are sincere, our behavior will back up our change of heart and we will turn away from what brought us into “godly sorrow” in the first place.

CONVICTION IS A POWERFUL TOOL USED BY THE LORD TO RETURN OUR HEARTS TO HIM.  Conviction helps us recognize our sin, experience sorrow over it, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, empowers us to TURN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF IT as we RETURN to right standing before the Lord. The Lord corrects those He loves (Proverbs 3:12), and the truth is, even though conviction isn’t the most pleasant thing, it’s actually exciting because with the Lord’s conviction comes the promise of restoration, health and healing!

CONDEMNATION
IS STRAIGHT FROM THE ENEMY. It brings feelings of worthlessness, guilt, and depression. It produces a kind of sorrow that is hopeless and helpless to bring about true change. Condemnation makes a person feel like they are forever destined to walk in a cycle of sin, repent, temporary behavior modification and then back to sin, etc…When we have done wrong, it is important to quickly examine whether we are feeling conviction(Godly sorrow) or condemnation (guilt from the enemy). If we are feeling condemned, we must identify it as an arrow from the enemy (who wants to separate us from the loving arms of our Heavenly Father and keep us in a cycle of sin), throw it off and determine to embrace the good conviction of the Holy Spirit. From there healing, health, growth, and LIFE IN CHRIST will take place in us.
