Exodus 39:1-40:38 / Mark 1:1-28 / Psalm 35:1-16 / Proverbs 9:11-12
Contend, O Lord, with those who contend against me; Fight against those who fight against me. Take up shield and buckler and run to my aid. Brandish sword and javelin against those who pursue me.”
It can be easy to read these words of David and miss the meaning and relevance for our own lives. We must remember that we wrestle, not with flesh and blood, but with an unseen foe (Ephesians 6:12) that tries to come against us all day long. This unseen enemy (Satan) uses lies, deception, accusation and shame in an attempt to keep us from enjoying the beauty and wonder of a real relationship with the Lord.
Satan’s main goal is to set up wrong ways of thinking in our heads. When we take on these false principles (when he speaks lies to us and we believe them), we find ourselves becoming discouraged, confused, lifeless and fruitless. So, just like David, we need to ask for the Lord’s supernatural protection against the enemy of our soul who wants to lie and steal from us. We also, like David, need to ask the Lord to examine us (Ps 26:2) and reveal to us areas where we may have swallowed lies that need to be replaced with His life giving truth!
