Luke 1: 76-79
“And, you child (John), will be called the prophet of the Highest; for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways; to give knowledge of salvation to His people by the remission of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God…to give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
These verses give the summery of God’s call on John’s (John the Baptist) life. He was called to go out to the people and tell them (give them knowledge) about the fact that God wanted their hearts – He wanted to save them! John was to tell the people that they needed turn from their sins and make Jesus the Lord of their lives. Then, because of The Father’s tender mercy, they could be made free from their sins so they could enter into a relationship with Him. John was to share the awesome news with the people that a RELATIONSHIP with God was the opposite of living in the darkness of sin and death – it lead to LIGHT and LIFE (NOW AND ETERNALLY!) and PEACE!
If God has come into your heart and SAVED you from a life of sin, death and eternal separation from Him, you know how truly life changing and incredible that is - IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP QUIET! It then becomes our great privilege to share this incredible news with others. Let’s be encouraged by John’s “job description”…It’s a great summery of exactly what we’re called to do today!
