Numbers 32:1-33:39 / Luke 4:31-5:11 / Psalm 64:1-10 / Proverbs 11:22
“When He (Jesus) stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch”. But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and have caught nothing; nevertheless, at Your word I will let down my net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their net was breaking.”
Simon (Peter) was tired. He’d been fishing all night and had caught nothing. He was frustrated and ready to pack up and go home. However, Jesus had other plans. He knew Simon was tapped out. Jesus saw this as the perfect opportunity to show him that HE can take any situation that appears to be empty or fruitless and make it overflow with abundance!
Jesus can do whatever He wants. We need to practice tuning our ears to His instructions and obey. It’s all about His timing and His desire to show us, beyond a shadow of a doubt that HE IS OUR PROVIDER. Sometimes He allows us to get to the end of our resources and strength in order to clearly show us His hand at work.
God, our Heavenly Father, wants to bless us abundantly. We need to be ready and willing to obey – even if it seems “we’ve been down that road before”. Remember, God’s thoughts are higher than ours and His timing is perfect. We can rest in that truth and know that as we obey the things He calls us to do, we’ll see His hand of provision more and more clearly and our faith will grow stronger.
