Deuteronomy 9:1-10:22 / Luke 8:4-21 / Psalm 69:19-36 / Proverbs 12:2-3

Standout verse:

Deuteronomy 9:12

“Then the Lord said to me, ‘Arise, go down quickly from here, for your people whom you have brought out of Egypt have acted corruptly; they have quickly turned aside from the way which I had commanded them; they have made themselves a molded image.”

The Israelites were in a period of waiting. God was seemingly silent; they didn’t like the season they were in or where they were living.  Instead of believing and standing on the promise that God had a plan and was in the process of seeing it through, the people became anxious and tired of waiting.  They didn’t like God’s timing – it wasn’t comfortable.  So, they decided to take matters into their own hands and try to speed up the process.  The people were well aware of the Promises God had spoken over them for generations and they felt that now was the time for them to “help Him out”.

Enter: the golden calf…that didn’t go well for them…jumping ahead of God’s plans and timing for us never does.  Let’s be people that study history and learn through it.  We are called to TRUST God with EVERY AREA of our lives and WAIT for His best!

Lord, thank You for YOUR PLANS and YOUR TIMING.  Help us not to run ahead of You, but keep our eyes focused and our ears listening to what You are saying.  As we press into You each day, let us hear Your voice more clearly so that our lives will be in step with Your will for us.  HELP US TO BE WILLING TO WAIT ON YOUR TIMING – continue to transform us and grow our faith!
