Proverbs 10:25

“When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked are no more.  But the righteous have and everlasting foundation.”

Foundations are a big deal – it’s what we build things on…buildings, houses, lives.  A structure is only as strong as it’s foundation…it’s the same with a life.  God talks a great deal about the importance of building our lives on strong, unshakeable, truth that will weather the storms of life.  Strong foundations don’t just happen, they take time, effort, diligence and determination.

The enemy also knows the importance of a strong foundation of truth and he is determined to “rain out” the building process.  Psalm 11 says, “the wicked bend their bow and make ready the arrow on the string that they may shoot secretly at the foundations of the righteous.  If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”  We need to be aware that Satan is going to try all he can to distract us, speak lies to us, and monopolize our time so that we will build with mixed materials…a little lie here, some truth, topped off with a few more lies.  If he can get us unfocused and off course he knows that we won’t be able to hold up when faced with the challenges of this fallen world...he wins.

Matthew 7:24-27 contrasts the wise man who built his house on the rock with the man who built his house on the sand.  It is abundantly clear that if we are to really live, grow and become the people God created us to be, we are going to need to set about filling ourselves with His “all weather”, eternal truth.  As we continue to build our lives on Him and grow in our relationship with Him, we will become steady, strong and unshakeable.
