Numbers 6:1-7:89 / Mark 12:38-13:13 / Psalm 49:1-20 / Proverbs 10:27-28

Standout Verse:

Psalm 49:10-12, 14-15

“Likewise, the fool and the senseless person perish and leave their wealth to others.  Their inner thought is that their house will last forever, their dwelling places to all generations.  They call their lands by their own names.  Nevertheless man, though in honor, does not remain.  He is like the beasts that perish.

(v. 14-15) Like sheep, they are laid in the grave – death shall feed on them.  The upright (those who are alive) shall have dominion over them in the morning.  And their beauty shall be consumed in the grave, far from their dwelling.  But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave – for He shall receive me.”

Sounds pretty depressing.  However, these verses are talking about a life lived without God.  Riches, honors, achievements, positioning, etc…, the things that the world esteems, are completely, 100% temporary and disposable in God’s economy.  He could care less about all we achieve, if what we achieve is apart from Him and His BEST plans for us.  When people try and live their lives with God cut out of the equation it breaks His heart because it’s all going to end and be gone the day they die.

God’s heart is that we build and succeed in things that are ETERNAL, lasting and fruitful, BEGINNING with our relationship with Him.  RELATIONSHIPS are most important to Him, not “possessions” or “status”.  As we love Him and SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM, (the things that are closest to His heart) everything else will be added to us!  He promises to provide for us and care for us as we put Him first in our lives….those “riches” will NEVER end and will carry on into eternity – SO WONDERFUL!!
