1 Chronicles 12:32
“…of the sons of Issachar, who had understanding of the times to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred and all their brethren were at their command.”
In the midst of genealogies and tribal “accounting”, the sons of Issachar are briefly mentioned. What is said about them is quite powerful. The men in this tribe “understood the times” and “knew what to do” (i.e. they excelled in wisdom, and were the “go to” guys for strategic plans to face their military enemies).
We should take a cue from the sons of Issachar in these days we are living in! The super-speed growth technology, a rollercoaster economy, the threat of terrorism, flagrant over-sexualization of a generation, and a slew of other heavy-hitting "enemy fire" qualify the days we live in as some of the most intense and difficult to navigate in history.
“Lord, please OPEN OUR EYES to the things You want us to see. By the power of Your Holy Spirit, GIVE US A RAZOR SHARP UNDERSTANDING OF THE TIMES WE ARE LIVING IN SO WE WILL BE ABLE TO WALK IN VICTORY - NOT BE OVERCOME. Our desire is that an ever-deepening walk with You will make us wise beyond our circumstances and help us navigate the waters of this crazy culture – that we will not be at the mercy of the days we live in, but that our roots will grow deeper in You. From that place, our marriages will grow stronger, and we will be able to raise children who are wise beyond any challenge they will face. Help us not become people who walk in fear, at the mercy of being tossed by the waves of this world, but people who “KNOW WHAT TO DO”. Help us to be WISE, DISCERNING, and EQUIPPED to live VICTORIOUSLY!” AMEN!!
